Julie Verhoeven: overview / portfolio / information

biography

Julie Verhoeven’s work is multi-disciplined across art and fashion; from illustration, creative direction to design consultancy, her work is known for its exquisitely avant-garde quality and surreal composition.

Graduating in 1987, Julie started working as John Galliano’s first design assistant, she then went on to work as design consultant for Martine Sitbon, and was head designer for GIBO.  Julie’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton in 2003 was a huge success and her recent commissions include collaborations with Versace, Loewe, Mulberry, Lancôme, Topshop, Nick Knight’s showstudio.com and Sketch, as well as music projects with Primal Scream and Fischerspooner.  Julie has contributed to publications such as Dazed & Confused, Self Service, Vogue Italia and The Face, and is currently lecturing at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Royal College of Art.

Julie has exhibited widely throughout Europe and her recent solo shows include Gluteus Maximus, in two parts (zINGERpresents, Amsterdam); Verheaven (Riflemaker, London); Saint James in Bloom (Economist Plaza, London); Plastic Smile (High and Low Art Fair, Frankfurt); Gone Fishing (Tache-Levy Gallery, Brussels) and Salty Nipples (Galerie Vera Gliem, Cologne). She has also participated in several international group shows such as Drawings on Paper (Emily Tsingou Gallery) and The Garden Party (Deitch Projects, New York).

Julie has published two much celebrated books of her work, Fat Bottomed Girls and Gas.
